1. Scope of this Policy
This Policy covers content created, commissioned, or hosted by the HEADTURNED Foundation on its public-facing channels, including:
- text and copywriting (for example, pages, articles, captions);
- wildlife and habitat photography;
- video, film, and audio recordings;
- graphics, illustrations, and design assets; and
- logos, wordmarks, and other brand elements.
It applies to the Foundation's main website, media library, Insights content and related materials. A separate set of terms and policies will govern user- and creator-generated content on the HEADTURNED PPV platform.
2. Ownership of Foundation-created content
Unless stated otherwise, all content created directly by or for the HEADTURNED Foundation—such as copywriting, in-house photography, design work, and documentation—is owned by the Foundation and protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights.
This includes the overall look and feel of the site, page structures, written narratives, and any bespoke illustrations or graphics commissioned specifically for the Foundation.
3. External creators, photographers & contributors
The Foundation collaborates with photographers, filmmakers, writers, and other creative contributors. Unless explicitly transferred in writing, copyright in their work remains with the original creator.
In those cases, the Foundation normally holds a licence—agreed between the parties—to use the content on Foundation channels (such as the website, media library, printed materials, and social media), and, where relevant, in fundraising or awareness campaigns. Licence terms may vary between contributors.
Creators will normally be credited in a clear and respectful way wherever their work is used, unless there are agreed reasons (for example, safety or privacy) not to do so.
4. Use of HEADTURNED content by others
You may view content on our website and, for personal, non-commercial purposes, you may:
- read and share page links with others; and
- quote short extracts of text with clear attribution to the HEADTURNED Foundation and, where relevant, the original creator.
You may not without prior written permission from the Foundation (and, where applicable, the original creator):
- download and reuse photographs, video, or audio in your own projects;
- reproduce articles or substantial sections of text on your own website, social media channels, or printed materials;
- use HEADTURNED imagery, footage, or copy for commercial purposes, including advertising or product promotion; or
- modify or adapt content in ways that misrepresent the Foundation's work, partners, or the animals and communities we support.
If you would like to request permission to use content, please contact us using the details on our website. Permission may be granted or refused at our discretion and may be subject to specific conditions.
5. Logos, brand & visual identity
The HEADTURNED name, logos, and visual identity—including any associated sub-brands such as the HEADTURNED Sanctuary, Innovation Hub, Vertical Farming campus, and HEADTURNED PPV—are protected assets of the Foundation.
They must not be used, reproduced, or adapted by third parties without written permission. This includes use on websites, social media, products, merchandise, campaigns, or in any context that might imply endorsement, partnership, or fundraising on behalf of the Foundation where no such relationship exists.
Where approved collaborations or partnerships are in place, any use of logos and brand assets will be governed by a separate brand or licence agreement.
6. Ethical storytelling & safeguarding in media
Stories, images, and film involving people—especially children, young people, or adults at risk—are handled with particular care. Consent, safeguarding, and privacy are central to how such media is planned, captured, and shared.
We avoid sensationalising distress or trauma. Media that documents difficult realities is presented with dignity and context, in line with our Safeguarding Policy and our wider ethical commitments.
7. AI, editing & authenticity
The Foundation may use editing tools to adjust media for clarity or accessibility (for example, cropping, colour correction, or adding captions), but we avoid changes that materially misrepresent the situation, animal, or landscape being shown.
Where AI-generated or heavily composited imagery is used—as conceptual visions, design exploration, or future-facing visualisations—it will not be presented as documentary record. We aim to keep a clear distinction between real-world documentation and illustrative or speculative media.
8. User-submitted & collaborative content
In some cases, supporters, volunteers, or community members may provide photos, stories, or other content for use on our channels. Before such media is used, we will normally:
- confirm that the person has the right to share the content; and
- agree how it may be used, including any limits or preferences (for example, around crediting or anonymity).
By submitting content for use by the Foundation, contributors normally grant us a non-exclusive licence to use that content on our channels for awareness-raising, education, and fundraising, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
9. Infringement, takedowns & concerns
If you believe that content on our site infringes your rights—or the rights of someone you represent—please contact us with details of:
- the specific content in question (with a link if possible);
- the nature of your rights or interest in that content; and
- the outcome you are seeking (for example, removal, correction, or updated credit).
We will review the request within a reasonable period and may temporarily remove or restrict access to the content while the matter is considered.
10. Changes to this Policy
This Policy may be updated from time to time, for example to reflect changes in law, best practice, or how the Foundation creates and uses media. When that happens, the latest version will be published on this page.
Questions about this Policy, or requests for permission to use specific content, can be submitted through our usual contact routes on the website.
