The consequence may be out of sight. It is not imaginary.
Land use and food production have helped sustain and advance human life. But changes made for productivity, convenience and scale can also alter habitats, soils, water, biodiversity and the conditions other life depends upon.
Those effects can reach mammals, birds, insects, invertebrates, plants and entire ecological relationships. They can also change whether damaged systems retain the ability to regenerate.
